Boundaries, are a trendy topic... but it's also something real. It's at times hard for us to set our own boundaries within the workplace or even know what boundaries should be set. When boundaries are established it will allow room for better team connection and communication.
In this episode we talk about:
1) Emotional Boundaries
2) Mental Boundaries
3) Communication what it looks like and means
4) Common boundaries to establish
5) How to use this to grow communication with your team
A recap of some of what we discussed:
First, you have to figure out what are your boundaries? easy way to establish for you to think of what you stressed about is taking up your time and energy. If your mind is still lost and confused with establishing this “what”
Think of these common areas to establish boundaries:
- The days and hours that you work. So instead of the 10-hour shift because you have to finish more work, end your work shift on time, or don’t work that Saturday to squeeze in more work.
- Your communication methods, maybe bringing in a project management tool for better team collaboration and communication.
- Your time off, actually not feeling guilty on taking your time and not having to explain why.
If there is a specific boundary that relates to you make sure to bring it into your list. Once you have your boundaries, communicate them!!!
Yes, you cant have boundaries without communicating them to others, and if you don’t communicate them in the future miscommunication can occur because of it.
And here's the thing, your boundaries, your right so doesn't be sorry about your boundaries, don't be sorry because you didn't answer that email at 10p don't be sorry if you have to stick to your tasks and not drop anything the second someone comes asking for your help.
Be polite, be professional, but don't push boundaries any further.
If it feels like your manager is pushing them, make them aware of your responsibilities and ask them which task you should put on hold to then include in your new one.
And please friends use your PTO and stay away from your email and laptop.
You don't get credit for not using your PTO, it’s your right and benefit that you’ve accumulated there so you’re doing yourself justice and a great thing for your mental health and creative ability if you take that time off.
